ABC Stores Accepting Donations for Virginia Tornado Victims
Highlights
- Tax-deductible donations for tornado victims accepted at ABC store registers and online.
- Contributions will go to the Virginia Disaster Relief Fund established by Gov. Bob McDonnell and administered by VDEM.
RICHMOND – ABC is now collecting tax deductible donations at store registers to help Virginians who suffered losses from April's severe storms and tornadoes.
During April, 10 people were killed and more than 100 injured by approximately 30 tornadoes and severe storms that ripped through Virginia. An estimated 212 homes were destroyed and more than 1,000 were damaged.
Contributions will go to the Virginia Disaster Relief Fund established by Gov. Bob McDonnell and administered by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM). Donations will be accepted via cash, credit or debit cards. Store associates will issue a receipt for each tax-deductible donation.
ABC’s Information Technology and Wholesale/Retail divisions developed this new capability that allows donations through the store point-of-sale (POS) systems and electronically transfers them to the relief fund. The programming is designed to handle future collections as well as collect for several different funds at one time. (Currently, donations are designated for the Virginia Disaster Relief Fund only.)
Donations are accepted at every ABC store in the commonwealth. Interested parties also may donate to the Virginia Disaster Relief Fund online at: https://payments.vi.virginia.gov/donatenow/.
