Craigslist Leads Virginia ABC Agents to Illegal Sale of Alcohol

STAFFORD – Special agents of the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) seized 211 bottles of wine this morning as part of an undercover investigation into the illegal sale of alcohol online.

The suspect, a King George resident, was charged with the illegal sale of alcohol: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+4.1-302.

As part of the undercover investigation, ABC agents monitoring Craigslist came across an advertisement for a large amount of wine for sale. It is illegal to sell alcohol without a license in Virginia.

Agents made arrangements with the suspect to purchase the wine, which was being held in a storage unit. After conducting a controlled buy of the wine, agents arrested the suspect.

The suspect was released on a summons.
