ABC Announces 2011-2012 Community Coalition Grant Recipients
Virginia ABC is pleased to announce eight Community Coalition grants totaling $65,708 for alcohol education have been awarded to organizations throughout the commonwealth. Funded by a federal grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), the grants were received by organizations that demonstrated a creative plan to promote zero tolerance for underage drinking, reach large numbers of people through its programs, gain broad-based community support and ensure effectiveness and accountability. Twenty-five 2011–2012 Community Coalition grant applications were received. The following eight organizations are the 2011–2012 Community Coalition Grant recipients:
- Buchanan County Youth, Inc.; Grundy ($8,500)
- City of Waynesboro; Waynesboro ($9,008)
- Hey! (Helping Engage Youth) Coalition, Piedmont Community Services; Martinsville ($10,000)
- Prevention Council of Roanoke County; Roanoke ($8,850)
- Regional Drug Free Alliance; Richmond ($5,000)
- SATIRA (Substance Abuse Taskforce in Rural Appalachia); Tazewell ($8,000)
- South County Youth Network, Inc.; Alexandria ($7,250)
- Warren County Community Health Coalition; Front Royal ($9,100)

Each year Virginia ABC offers Community Coalition grants up to $10,000 to support collaboration between local businesses, community organizations and state agencies, as they strive to promote zero tolerance for underage alcohol consumption. These grants encourage prevention initiatives that focus on environmental, educational and information dissemination strategies in their respective communities. Funding for the Community Coalition grants is through a federal grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
